Family-friendly employment

Pregnancy changes not only life at home, but also the experience at work. That is precisely why it is an important Human Experience theme.

In this second installment of a three-part series on child-friendly employment practices, we once again sit down with parenting coach Kimberley Galenkamp. The central question here is: How do you balance a career with parenthood without constantly feeling like you’re falling short in some way? Drawing on our own experiences as working mothers, we discuss the day-to-day realities of work and parenthood: from feelings of guilt and expectations to mental strain, personal leadership, and the role of employers.

Because while it may not be an employer’s responsibility to ensure a balance between work and parenthood, if that balance is lacking, it does become the employer’s problem.
